Nanotechnology has now reached the status of being one of the key areas in investigation attracting researchers in the twenty-first century in their endeavours to make use of the unique characteristics of atomic and molecular assemblages constructed at nanoscale. The ability to manipulate the physical and chemical properties of nanoparticles offers researchers the possibility of designing and using nanomaterials rationally in diverse applications.
Through their own merits, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology have become one of the latest revolutionary events in Science and Technology. The still young field of Nanoscience has seen considerable advances. Thus, nanoparticles of different nature are used in a variety of disciplines, from Medicine to Physics, Biology or Chemistry, whose development has been boosted by the increasingly in-depth knowledge of nanomaterials. Today a broad range of synthesis procedures has been described, aimed at the preparation of nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution that have been used as functional building blocks in the development of superstructures with novel properties and applications.
Analytical Chemistry has not been indifferent to this development. Without exception, the various nanomaterials synthesized have found applications with noteworthy success, and to a large extent these have fostered a multidisciplinary investigatory effort relating such materials to other areas of Science. As a result, Nanoscience oriented towards Analytical Chemistry or NanoAnalytical Chemistry has become a field with great potential that is now generating state-of-the-art tools for different applications in diverse fields in the nanotechnological scenario. Within this exciting context, here we present the VII Workshop on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, which is to be held in Salamanca on 6-8 July 2015 at the very singular Colegio Mayor Arzobispo Fonseca, a XVI century building considered to be a prime example of the Spanish Renaissance. After the success of the six previous Workshops (Córdoba, Tarragona, Oviedo, Zaragoza, Toledo and Alcalá de Henares) the Congress has become established as an unquestionable platform for joint debate by the many researchers involved in the field. As in previous Workshops, we seek the participation of experts from areas other than Analytical Chemistry and contributions from both Spanish and internationally based researchers.
It is therefore my pleasure to invite you to participate in the VII NyNA Workshop to be held in 2015 with the sincere wish that your experience at this event in Salamanca will be fruitful from the scientific point of view and that it will also be enjoyable as regards your stay in our friendly, vibrant and very beautiful city.
María Jesús Almendral
Chairwoman of the VII NyNA 2015
